MAREES DE HAUTEURS DIVERSES (CDR by Insubordinations)
this seven piece album are all remixes, but it takes the seven pieces from an album ‘Complaints De Maree Basse’ by Diatribes and Abdul Moimeme, which I think I haven’t heard, but its a nice idea to get a remix done for one album, track by track. Its of course is a pity that I didn’t hear the original since it makes it hard to compare with the remixes. So we could also safely say that this is ‘just’ another compilation. Here we have Blindheao, Nicolas Bernier, Honore Feraille, Ludger Hennig, Mokuhen, Francisco Lopez and Herzog doing the honors. Ranging from heavy laptop processing (Blindhead, Lopez, Herzog) in which the original is probably entirely removed, to those who use more clearly sounds of the original (Bernier’s take on the drum sounds, Mokuhen on scraping metallic sounds). Also if you don’t know the original, then it is a fine compilation. Without big surprises, but with a fine quality overall. (FdW)

” In Linguas Stat Virtus ” (based on the works of Severine Hubard) a musical tale cut in the wood, opening in the wind of an unpublished and imaginary musical territory is. Between fable and bleeps computing, ancestral percussions and flights of poetry. The trio gives life to a strange elastic universe of rhythms, romantic monotonous chants, whispered words. Where fight ceaselessly west and east, architecture and intimate images. The result transports in a somewhere else precious. We take refuge with the hut and we settle down. We hear the fire to crackle in the hearth, we guess the forest of bamboo of Kyoto tattooed in the soul. Collusive, generous, luxuriant music. Enter a line of piano (of David Sanson) and letter to Asa Chang, spoken word (titles of the works of Severine) and invitation in the dance, musical pilgrimage and tickets offered in several languages, the trio offers us a bright journey, taking place with enjoyment of our senses .

Rainier had sent me this cassette at the end of 2010. ” In Linguas Stat Virtus ” was a rainbow above 2011. An experience to be blessed for 2012. We hope for it for you.

“In Linguas Stat Virtus” (basé sur les travaux de Severine Hubard ) est un conte musical taillé dans le bois, s’ouvrant dans le vent d’un territoire musical inédit et imaginaire. Entre fable et bleeps informatiques, percussions ancestrales et envolées poétiques, le trio donne vie à un étrange univers de rythmes élastiques, de mélopées romantiques, de mots chuchotés. Où bataillent sans cesse occident et orient, architecture et images intimes. Le résultat transporte dans un ailleurs précieux. On se réfugie dans la maisonnette et on s’installe. On entend le feu crépiter dans l’âtre, on devine la foret de bambou de Kyoto tatouée à l’âme. Musique complice, généreuse, luxuriante. Entre une ligne de piano (de David Sanson) et lettre à Asa Chang, spoken word (titres des oeuvres de Severine) et invitation à la danse, pèlerinage musical et billets offerts en plusieurs langues, le trio nous offre un voyage lumineux, se jouant avec délectation de nos sens.

Rainier m’avait envoyé cette cassette fin 2010. “In Linguas Stat Virtus” fut un arc-en-ciel au dessus de 2011. Une expérience à bénir pour 2012. On l’espère pour vous.

” I hope you are all well and happy, January is turning out to be the most busy of all time so forgive my slightly late notice for these concerts this weekend.

First up: I’ve been working with 5 extraordinary musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra on a piece to be performed after the Jonathan Harvey Concert at the Barbican this Saturday the 28th Jan.

The piece uses lot’s of live sampling and manipulation of the instruments, you can see us rehearsing in MV2 at Maida Vale (above). There will also be pieces written by Guildhall School students and after, a live set by yours truly. Full details of the days events are given HERE

My piece and all the students pieces will be performed from 10pm in the Barbican Foyer (down stairs) and it’s FREE ADMISSION. If you would like to go and see the Jonathan Harvey concert at 8pm I’ve organised a discount, all you have to do is quote ‘LEAFCUTTER’ when booking by phone (020 7638 8891) or in person at the Barbican Booking office and you’ll get a ticket for £5 (+ booking fee if using phone).

The second concert is the day after wards and is at the Southbank Sunday 29th January. It features a new device I have made which makes music from light, or more precisely uses changing light to control sounds… Blah every way I can think of describing it falls short. Anyhow it looks a bit like this, but very animated and pulsing like a swarm of happy fire flies.

The show starts at 7:45, I’ll be playing solo and a duet with Olly Coates on cello. The night promises to be very special, Olly has put a lot of thought into the staging and scheduling! The night also features singer Olivia Chaney accompanied by Jordan Hunt, poetry by Matthew Welton and a new unaccompanied cello work by Christopher Mayo.
