LODZ susurre le temps de ce premier album. Egraine dans ses chansons mélancolique, souvenirs, poupées en porcelaine comptant l’histoire familiale …. Cet album impose d’entrée son intimité, son côté journal intime cousu de fil d’or dans la pénombre d’une chambre sous les toits.
LODZ à partir de ses expériences, construit des histoires qui sont autant de contes et de féeries. Charmes nocturnes, promenades en pleine nature sauvage, au bord de l’eau, à l’orée de forêts impénétrables ou dans ses rêves, Il y a dans son jeu, sa voix, son écriture quelque chose de très littéraire et classique.

Impression, floue et intrigante, de pénétrer dans son univers par une porte de service . Une plage en parquet comme décor, l’écume et les rouleaux comme rythmique lointaine, un sample de violoncelle et un piano comme ami d’enfance, elle forge sa particularité ..

De sa formation classique et des accidents électroniques ; de sa culture juive ou des plans séquences de films noir, crépitent mélodies à la fois sensibles et malléables. LODZ s’installe loin de tout, sur un bout de colline, pour imaginer la musique du vent et de ses souvenirs. Voilant la végétation d’une couverture de neige, encombrant le paysage de nuages, sifflant des soupirs et comptant des murmures, patiemment, les chansons s’imposent sur le temps. LODZ se raconte son histoire…

LODZ whispers the time of this first album, melancholic songs, porcelain dolls telling the family story. This album imposes of entrance its intimacy, even its side personal diary, sewn by golden son in the twilight of a room under roofs. LODZ, from its experiments, builds stories which are so many tales and spectaculars. Night-charms, walks in the middle of nowhere savage, at the edge of the water, in the edge of forests or in her dreams. But there is in the set, the voice, the writing, something very literary and classic.

 » I come from a musical practice which is the interpretation. And my way of approaching my own music, with the computer and the treatment of the archived sounds which he allows, is structured by this practice of the interpreting. I interpret within my own music: at first a culture « classic » to whom I make widely reference, in a sometimes implicit way (we so find, spread, winks to Ravel for Maror, to Bartók in East, to Sailor Swamp in Hanna dreams. There are also poetic texts, which are more or less advanced there also and which constitute me just as much: Rilke in Cornet, Apollinaire in Rhénanes… There are a lot of people, thus, which(who) hid in these fragments, references more or less veiled from a whole culture which built me and which try to interpret again. »

Very nice and low-key first album from Lodz, a french (I believe) musician who marries electronic glitch, melodic piano and what might-not-be-but-still-sounds-like field recordings with a her soft female voice (singing in french and german). Laid back, poetic and very calm, this is one of these modest glitch albums that take the time to be human and emotional (think of Nexsound’s releases). The whole thing comes packaged in a heavy cardboard sleeve, with stickers and extra booklet.

 » Lodz signs a unique and successful disk, which is not without evoking a sort of B.O of fantasy and dumb movie, trought out of some rubble of the XXth century. A singular artist to classify beside some francs-markswomen of the sound and the experiment, just like French Judith Juillerat or Colleen.  » JY Leloup-TSUGI
